A British premium destroyer that is a retuned Jutland, built around concealment and plentiful smoke. With 6.18 km detectability, five single-burst smoke charges (5 s emission, 16 s duration), three charges of Sonar I and a nimble 11.5°/s turn rate, it can easily hide and slip away around caps. On the other hand, its six 113 mm guns reload in 4.8 s, putting HE DPM 18% below average and expected fires 29% below, so its guns alone struggle to hurt big ships. On paper it needs about 152 s to burn through one same-tier destroyer's HP, so its anti-destroyer firepower is ordinary as well. Some players feel the single-burst smoke, laid in one short puff, doesn't suit a destroyer that keeps moving.

The Battle-class destroyers, featuring enhanced AA defenses, were designed drawing on lessons learned from wartime and ordered by the Admiralty between 1942 and 1943. The ships ordered in 1943 differed from their earlier counterparts through more powerful main battery artillery. Among them was destroyer HMS Somme, named after one of the biggest battles of World War I. However, she was never commissioned and remained unclaimed due to the end of hostilities in 1945.
