Somme
Tier IX · Destroyer · U.K. · Premium
Rating C- (Quite weak within its tier and class · overall score 23) · Stealthy destroyer
Stealthy destroyer. It is weak against cruisers (AP deals a same-tier cruiser's HP in about 6 min on paper). 5 charges of Short Burst Smoke Generator let it break vision and escape whenever it gets caught. Detectability of 6.18 km is 0.21 km below average, so it is less likely to be spotted first. Key skills: Short Burst Smoke Generator ×5 (5 s deploy, 16 s linger); Sonar I ×3 (3.75 km, 25 s). Weak guns: focus on spotting, capping and supporting allies instead of gunfights.

The Battle-class destroyers, featuring enhanced AA defenses, were designed drawing on lessons learned from wartime and ordered by the Admiralty between 1942 and 1943. The ships ordered in 1943 differed from their earlier counterparts through more powerful main battery artillery. Among them was destroyer HMS Somme, named after one of the biggest battles of World War I. However, she was never commissioned and remained unclaimed due to the end of hostilities in 1945. She was eventually demolished on her stocks.
