A Japanese premium torpedo destroyer with 5.76 km detectability. Two charges each of Engine Boost III (top speed +16%) and Smoke Generator II make it excellent at escaping once spotted. Its standard torpedoes reach 10.2 km, more than 4 km beyond its detectability, so it can lay them unseen, and according to the wiki it can switch to faster, harder-hitting 8 km torpedoes to hunt big ships. Its six 127 mm guns produce an average 32,400 HE DPM, so it is a ship for torpedoing from stealth rather than for gunnery. Its 35.03 kn top speed is on the slow side and AA is 25% below average, so it struggles once a carrier finds it.

The Asashio-class was a group of 10 destroyers built for the Imperial Japanese Navy between 1937 and 1939, designed to be an improvement over the preceding Shiratsuyu-class destroyers. The Japanese government allowed the London Naval Treaty to expire, a treaty that had prevented improvements to the Shiratsuyu class due to the applicable limits. No longer needing to adhere to the treaty limitations, engineers increased the displacement and hull length of the Asashio class to improve the speed and operational range.
