Shinano

Tier X · Aircraft Carrier · Japan · Premium

Rating A+ (Strong within its tier and class · overall score 78) · Dive-bomber carrier

A Japanese premium carrier built on a Yamato-class hull, whose AP-bomb bombers deal 25,552 per strike, 63% above the tier-X carrier average. AP bombs have high penetration, scoring citadels on cruisers easily, and are especially strong when striking enemy carriers directly. Its armor is about twice that of other carriers, so in turn it holds up well against enemy bombing. It also has tactical squadrons and squadron smoke, letting it both finish off targets and support allies. However, its slow 26.69 kn top speed makes it hard to escape if poorly positioned.

The largest aircraft carrier of World War II and the largest warship sunk by a submarine. She was initially built as the third Yamato-class battleship, but after the defeat at Midway, the Japanese High Command decided to complete Shinano as an aircraft carrier. Torpedoes from U.S. submarine Archerfish sank her on November 29, 1944, during her first trip out to sea following her formal commission into service.
