Scharnhorst '43

Tier VII · Battleship · Germany · Premium

Rating C (Weak within its tier and class · overall score 28) · Fast battleship

Fast battleship, suited to flanking. It is weak against battleships (HE deals a same-tier battleship's HP in about 14 min on paper · torpedoes supply 27% of it). Top speed of 30.4 kn is 4 kn above average, with good turning, acceleration. Detectability of 10.08 km is 0.82 km below average, so it is less likely to be spotted first. Its firepower trails other battleships, so be selective and punish broadsides. A firepower equipment build improves reload 15.5→14.72 s, dispersion 378→344 m.

The lead ship in a series of two battleships designed for raiding operations entered service a few months before the outbreak of World War II. Scharnhorst conducted her first battle raid in November 1939, followed by support for a landing in Norway, a raid into the Atlantic Ocean, and a breakthrough across the English Channel. In 1943, the battleship was transferred to Norway to attack enemy Arctic convoys. On December 26, 1943, Scharnhorst, flying Rear Admiral Erich Bey's flag, was sunk in battle by an Allied squadron off the North Cape.
