Mahan
Tier VII · Destroyer · U.S.A.
Rating A+ (Strong within its tier and class · overall score 76) · Gunboat destroyer
Gunboat destroyer, suited to cap contesting. Top speed is 34.2 kn (2.4 kn below average), but 7.3 s acceleration and 2.8 s rudder shift make it exceptionally nimble at dodging shells and snapping turns. Its 7.2 km torpedoes outrange its 6 km detectability by 1.2 km, ideal for smoke-backed ambushes. Its HE main battery DPM of 28,425 is 10% above the same-tier destroyer average. Detectability of 6 km is 0.25 km below average, so it is less likely to be spotted first. Its 7.7 km range is short, so use islands and fight inside 6 km.

The Mahan class was an improved version of the Farragut class. The most important changes were improvements to the mid-ship deck layout. Her three quad torpedo tubes were her main weapon against larger enemy ships.
