Gunboat destroyer, suited to fire pressure, spotting. It is especially strong against battleships (HE deals a same-tier battleship's HP in about 5 min on paper · torpedoes supply 26% of it). HE DPM of 35,385 plus strong fires lift its firepower score. HE-only, it grinds targets down with fires. Key skills: Engine Accelerator II ×3 (top speed +12%, 25 s); Smoke Generator I ×3 (9 s deploy, 24 s linger); Radar I ×2 (7.2 km, 10 s). Detectability of 7.32 km is 0.93 km above average, so it gets spotted early; move behind islands.

In the late 1920s, a dispute existed among the leaders of the Greek Navy about whether to invest in building more conventional ships or build fewer but stronger ones. In 1929, when Turkey purchased four destroyers from Italy, the first approach prevailed, and Greece ultimately ordered four destroyers to be built with simplified technology, also in Italy. Had the argument gone a different way, the other approach envisaged ordering a pair of large ships with 140 mm guns. The most suitable option was a predesign of a fleet cruiser that the British Admiralty was considering at that time—namely, the E-class cruiser armed with six 140 mm guns. Lambros Katsonis was named after the leader of the Greek people's national liberation struggle.
