Tier IX · Battleship · U.S.A. · Premium
Rating C- (Quite weak within its tier and class · overall score 15) · Balanced battleship
Balanced battleship, suited to fire pressure, AA escort. A glass cannon: huge firepower, but low HP means it melts under focus fire. Strong AA fends off carrier strikes well. High HE fire potential (4.2 fires/min before hit rate and resistance). Key skills: Precise Aiming System I ×4 (main battery accuracy +33%, 20 s). A survival equipment build adds damage reduction +9 pp, fire/flood resistance +10 pp, torpedo damage reduction +16 pp to shore up survivability.

In the 1940s, several projects to modernize and reconstruct battleships were developed—from hybrid aircraft carriers to artillery training battleships. One of them was the conversion of the last two Iowa-class battleships into escort ships for aircraft carriers. According to the project, turrets with rapid-firing 203 mm guns were to be mounted on the main battery barbettes; however, this plan never materialized.
