Balanced cruiser. It is weak against battleships (AP deals a same-tier battleship's HP in about 24 min on paper). Each Repair Kit restores 20% of max HP, up to 60% over a battle (standard 50%). Tanking damage and healing it back is this ship's biggest weapon. AP-only, but its destroyer-calibre shells rarely overpen, so they work on destroyers too. At 19.7 kn it is slow, so commit to a flank early.

In an attempt to rebuild and reinforce its fleet after the revolution of 1889 and the mutinies of the 1890s, Brazil ordered a series of armored cruisers from Armstrong. However, due to financial difficulties, only one ship actually entered service in the Brazilian Navy—Almirante Barroso, transferred in 1897. She was the first ship in the country to be equipped with a radiotelegraph. Almirante Barroso served with the Brazilian Navy until 1931, representing Brazil in Argentina and Chile.
